Linkedin has recently listed Product Designers #4 on their Most Promising jobs of 2019 - this after Payscale said a similar thing about design roles on their Hottest Jobs in 2018 report.  However, as many junior UXers have found out, breaking into UX is hard and could even be frustrating!  With ever-increasing competitions, getting a job in UX is not a "gimme".  To get your dream job you have to have all your stars aligned. What this class is about Whether you are a new/aspiring UXers graduating from school, a seasoned graphic designer looking to transition to UX, or an experienced pro looking for your next UX job, this class will teach you the knowledge and skills that you need in order to optimize your success.  Having hired designers as well as having sat on the other side of the table, my experience in job search as well as in interviewing will give you the insights to succeed. What you will learn Introduction An outlook of the current UX job market. What's out there, who's hiring, and what employers are looking for?  What does it take to get a UX job? Creating an effective UX portfolio Your portfolio is arguably the most important design project in your career.  How can you craft a portfolio that stands out and get you noticed?  I"ll talk about the DO's and DON"Ts Designing a result-oriented resume The perfect resume should leave your reader a strong impression of your brand, your accomplishments, and to get someone excited to talk to you!  Is your resume doing that?  If not, I'll give you pointers on how to achieve this Sharpening your Linkedin profile Your Linkedin profile is an extension to your resume.  Most people under-utilize it.  In this segment, I'll explain how you can turn your Linkedin profile into another weapon to gain an edge over your competitions. Killing it in your job interviews UX interviews can be intimidating.  Phone screens, on-site interviews, and design challenges!  How best to handle them, and what do the hiring teams look for at every stage?  Understanding the mind of the hiring team will significantly improve your chance to acing interviews. Strategizing your move From job hunting strategy to the understanding the secrets to getting hired, I'll wrap up the day by discussing what you need to do to optimize your job search, and how you can create professional branding that accentuates your UX skills in the context of your soft skills Q&A We'll finish the day with open Q&A's.  Still have unanswered questions?  This is your chance to ask them!
