Stephanie Bruce: Music from the Corridor
Stephanie Bruce has been singing for a very long time. Her public performance life began in the coffee house circuit, playing guitar and piano, and singing folk music. When Joni Mitchell and Laura Nyro opened the gates for female singer/songwriters, she began to experiment with her own simple four chord tunes about young love, summer days, and broken hearts. After moving to the Bay Area from Seattle, she was introduced to the world of jazz, and that was a major detour of study and performance in a genre that featured expansive harmony, tricky melodies, exciting grooves, and improvisation. She is a lyricist, composer, and arranger, and her body of work continues to expand. Stephanie will be performing a choice selection of her newer tunes, and a few favorites from years gone by. Many of the newest songs have been written for a musical theater piece (working title: Emily's Deceptive Cadence), a work-in-progress that was recently selected for the Above Ground Festival. The songs are lyrically rich, harmonically adventurous, range in content from joyous to heartbreaking, and a few will be performed for the first time at The Back Room. Joining Stephanie onstage will be three stellar Bay Area jazz musicians: John R Burr (piano), Aaron Germain (bass), and Kendrick Freeman (drums). lur Tickets are $18 in advance and $20 at the door. Children under 12 are free. Advance tickets are available at the link below, or you may purchase your tickets at the door the night of the show. Doors open one half hour before show time. We accept cash only at the door (ATMs are nearby). The Back Room is an all-ages, BYOB (for those 21+) space, dedicated to (mostly) acoustic music of all kinds. You are welcome to bring your own adult beverage with no additional corkage fee. If you need more information or have any questions, please call us: #510-654-3808. Thank you for your support!
