Musically Mostly Pesach with Members of PBO

Tuesday, April 23, 2019, 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM

Dayenu! It would have been enough to sing Passover songs around the Seder table; now we're offered a festive meal with traditional foods, music performed by a string quintet from Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra and Chorale, and inspirational thoughts by Rabbi David Booth.

How is this program different from usual concert fare? The ensemble will perform programmatic music representing events and circumstances of the Exodus and music more broadly based around Passover themes such as redemption and renewal. The program will include selections by Vivaldi, Handel, Beethoven, Mendelssohn and Gershwin.

The musicians are Kati Kyme, violin; Lisa Weiss, violin; Anthony Martin, viola; William Skeen, cello; and Kristin Zoernig, bass.

Rabbi David Booth is the spiritual leader of Congregation Kol Emeth in Palo Alto. He was educated at the University of Judaism in Los Angeles and then the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York. Rabbi Booth grew up in the Bay Area and is thrilled to have returned home to such a vibrant and dynamic Jewish community. In addition to his responsibilities at Kol Emeth, Rabbi Booth has published several articles and op-ed pieces in local and national publications. He has been a keynote speaker for the International Federation of Jewish Men's Clubs in Toronto and been scholar-in-residence in Thousand Oaks, CA as well as other speaking and teaching engagements.

Monthly Music at Noon concerts include a delicious hot buffet lunch before the concert.

Daytime Adult Learning and Culture Programs are made possible in part by the John R. Schwabacher Family as well as a grant from the Maimonides Fund at the Jewish Community Federation & Endowment Fund of San Francisco, The Peninsula, Marin and Sonoma Counties. We are grateful for their generous support.
