Mendocino Coast UkeFest 2020

Friday, May 1, 2020, 7:00 PM - 10:00 PM

Sad to say that the Mendocino Coast UkeFest committee has decided to cancel this event. We have no plans to reschedule at this time, but if we do we will post event here and send out notices to all on our email list. Stay safe and take care! Friday evening's jam session from 7:30 - 9 will introduce this year's workshop teachers, including the popular duo of Dani Joy and Perry Stauffer, Alex de Grassi and Sheridan Malone. Proceeds benefit the Community Center of Mendocino. Saturday the UkeFest begins at 9am with orientation and an informal jam. Participants will have two choices for each workshop, one in the morning and two in the afternoon, based on a range of themes from beginner to intermediate levels. The Saturday evening concert featuring UkeFest leaders will follow the dinner break. Dani Joy's world-influenced musical style is soothing and romantic, blending old time jazz with Bossa nova/exotica genres. She is most noted for her crooning alto vocals and tasteful ukulele fingerpicking & accompaniment. Her Dad Stu Herreid gave her a ukulele, opening an unexplored world of jazz and endless possibilities on four simple strings. Originally from Redding Ca, she now resides in Grass Valley Ca, touring as often as possible across the USA and internationally to venues and festivals across the globe. Perry Stauffer is a multi-instrumentalist who enjoys recreating old time swing music with ukulele, upright bass, baritone uke and guitar. He often accompanies Dani Joy in concert, showcasing bluesy solos and laying down strong, foundational bass lines. Sheridan Malone is a singer/songwriter from Ukiah, California who has taught for seven years at Joe Craven's RiverTunes Root Music and Creativity Camp. He's been a popular teacher of vocal technique and harmony, and plays ukulele, guitar, and upright bass. He loves to play ensemble, especially with multi-part harmony and performs regularly around Northern CaliforniaCatch him outside workshops with several other singers, and you may be drawn into some acapella harmony! Alex de Grassi is widely acclaimed as a leading innovator and virtuoso of acoustic guitar, fusing a variety of guitar traditions into a highly orchestrated sound. His early recordings of original music as well as his arrangements of folk, jazz and world music have influenced a whole generation of young players. Currently his attention is being drawn to the ukulele, having performed at the Ukiah ukulele festival and at the Navarro-by-the-Sea Day last year and recently leading a ukulele workshop in Ukiah. Hosting a "Ukestration" workshop is right up his alley.
