Berkeley, America’s First Sanctuary City: Panel & Exhibit
Join the Berkeley Historical Society as we close our current exhibit, “Building Bridges, Not Walls: Berkeley, America’s First Sanctuary City," with a panel presentation on the East Bay Sanctuary Covenant organization, the history of sanctuary cities, and the current status of the movement.
Speakers will include Sister Maureen Duignan and board members of EBSC, a pioneer in faith-based assistance to immigrants since the early 1980s.
It's also your last chance to view the exhibit, which explores Berkeley’s humanitarian spirit and internationalism as the first sanctuary city in the United States as of 1971.
Admission is free and the History Center is wheelchair accessible.
