Addressing Elder & Dependent Adult Abuse: Mandated Reporter Training
Join us at Institute on Aging for a mandated reporter training, on preventing and responding to elder and dependent adult abuse. You need attend only one of the two dates offered, both of which will be held in IOA's Weinberg Auditorium. These will be live trainings only. Please note: The Thursday, April 11th Training will not be at IOA, but will be held at Congregation Emanu-El 2 Lake Street San Francisco, CA 94118 This training is for all mandated reporters who work in the City and County of San Francisco, and whose agencies receive funding from the City and County of San Francisco. If you have not attended an elder and dependent adult abuse training in the past fiscal year, please see your supervisor about your need to participate. Mandated Reporters are, by law, any person who has assumed full or intermittent responsibility for care or custody of an elder or dependent adult, whether or not that person receives compensation, including administrators, supervisors, and any licensed staff of a public or private facility that provides care or services for elder or dependent adults, or any elder or dependent adult care custodian, health practitioner, clergy member, or employee of a county adult protective services agency or a local law enforcement agency. By the end of the course, participants will be able to: - Describe 3 common scenarios in which elders and dependent adults are susceptible to abuse - Identify 4 “red flags” which indicate possible elder or dependent adult abuse - Define the term “mandated reporter," as legally defined by California State Law - Practice knowledge application of 4 legal obligations of mandated reporters, as required by the State of California - Analyze the role of Adult Protective Services (APS) in protecting elders and dependent adults from abuse Presented by Shawna Reeves, MSW, Director of Elder Abuse Prevention, Institute on Aging. Previously, she was Director of Financial Education and Advocacy at Council on Aging Silicon Valley. Shawna has published numerous articles on elder financial abuse and has presented throughout the country on consumer issues and innovative ways to prevent elder financial abuse. Shawna received her MSW from Smith College School for Social Work. If you intend to attend either of these program dates, you must register. You’re welcome to bring your lunch and beverages into the training. None will be provided by IOA. Dates: Tuesday, January 15, 2019, 12:30 p.m. - 2 p.m. (Doors will open at noon) Thursday, April 11, 2019, 1:30 p.m. - 3 p.m. (Doors will open at 1 p.m.) Programs will begin on time, so please be prompt. Place: Institute on Aging, 3575 Geary Blvd., San Francisco, CA 94118 Directions and Parking: Limited street parking around the building, in mostly 2-hour increments. Public transportation is nearby, with the Geary bus running right in front of the building. Cost: No charge, but RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED. Continuing Education Information (1.5 Continuing Education Units): APA; BRN; CAMFT (serves LCSWs); MCLE. If you seek 1.5 professional Continuing Education Units, please note this in your reservation. There will be no charge for this. Also note that BBS no longer delivers CEs. CAMFT does offer CEs to LCSWs. An evaluation-test will be provided to all CE registrants, who must then attend the entire program and turn in their evaluation at the end of the program in order to qualify for a CE
