Five Fabulous Women Artists of the 1800's
Local artist and art historian Marlene Aron presents slides of the beautiful and inspiring art of five fabulous women artists:Mary CassattBerthe MorisotMarie BracquemondEva GonzalesCamille Claudel
These artists exhibited their work in the Salon and the World Exposition in Paris, three of them showing their paintings alongside Monet, Renoir, Degas, and Pissarro in the very first Impressionist exhibitions in the early 1870's. They painted their families, friends, children, and lovers, along with scenes of gardens, forests, and landscapes. They were independent and among the first women artists to have their own studios and make a living off of their art. And they were pivotal in the development of this new modern and avant-garde movement.
Take a journey through the artistry and lives of these fabulous women artists; movers and shakers of the Impressionist movement heralding the beginning of the Modern Art movement of the 20th Century.
